Coordinator of Landscape Architecture and Planning

Professor Hoversten came to UNLV to initiate the Landscape Architecture and Planning Program in 1991. He teaches the fifth-year capstone research studio and history of landscape architecture. As coordinator of the Program, he is responsible for teaching assignments, curriculum development and coordination, maintaining accreditation records, interfacing with other programs and departments, and providing leadership to students and faculty.

Hoversten is a member of the College of Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects and served as president of the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture. He is a licensed landscape architect and is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners. He was the recipient of the University and Community College System of Nevada Regent’s Creative Activity Award and the College of Fine Arts Charles Vanda Creative Activity Award. Hoversten’s research has resulted in numerous publications, conference presentations, and design and planning awards at the national, regional, and state level.

When not engaged in university activities, Hoversten spends his time hiking, writing, and drawing in the Mojave Desert and eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada range, and at his cabin in Idaho.
