Student Chapter Membership in the American Society of Interior Designers

Student Chapter membership in ASID offer students the opportunity to prepare for rewarding careers in interior design by belonging to the largest association representing designers, industry, and students. Through their membership, students can participate in a wide variety of learning experiences and programs which complement their academic training. Through interaction with the society’s thousands of practitioners and industry contacts, Student Chapter Members gain insight into the professional aspects of interior design. Through industry and professional interaction, students are introduced to new developments in the field and develop professional skills that will be used throughout their interior design careers.

  • Who Can Join?
  • Any student enrolled in an interior design or architecture program that houses and ASID Student Chapter may become and ASID Student Chapter Member. Students in the program can joint at any time during their enrollment and they do not have to have already taken credits in their programs to be eligible. They must be enrolled in the curriculum, plan on meeting the minimum 45 semester credit hours in interior design and/or interior design related classes, and be attending a minimum two year program for a degree or a certificate in interior design or architecture. Those not enrolled in Student Chapter School’s’ interior design or architecture curriculum may not, at any time, become members of an ASID Student Chapter.
  • Terms of Membership:
  • All Student Membership runs from September 1st through August 31 st. Membership and renewals of student membership in the society officially begins September 1st of each school year. Application for membership will be accepted throughout the school year, however, dues are never pro-rated. It is recommended that the application and submission process begin as close to the beginning of the school year as possible, or even during the late summer, so that students will receive all of their benefits and mailings for the full twelve months. We ask that Presidents not hold applications once they have been completed. National headquarters will accept student applications at any time and in any quantity, whether it be large groups, small groups, or singles.
  • Student Chapter Application Process:
  • It is preferred that students apply directly through their chapter president by completing a Scantron computer-gridded application. For each form submitted, there is a $35 national membership fee. As a benefit, the dues also include access to asid.org, the web-based service, provided that the student has internet access. Any additional dues which may be required by the Student Chapter are to be kept in the chapter fund. National dues remain the same throughout the school year and are pro-rated upon the month of actual application. When the dues and application are received at National Headquarters, the student becomes eligible to participate in all ASID Chapter programs. In addition, he/she will be issued an ASID Student Chapter Membership card and will receive both the student newsletter, ACCESS, and The ASID Professional Designer. The ASID Professional Designer is a bimonthly national magazine. The magazine is mailed six times a year to student members at their “current mailing address”. ACCESS provides and information forum and addresses concerns and issues within the student community and is mailed to student three times per year
