Landscape Architecture Program Accreditation Visit
The Landscape Architecture and Planning Program will be hosting an accreditation team this weekend and into mid week. The team will consist of Brian Orland (Penn State, Landscape Architecture), Rodney Swink (North Carolina State University, Landscape Architecture and Main Street Program, State of North Carolina, former president, ASLA) and Lorraine Davis (University of Oregon).
They will be examining the Landscape Architecture curriculum, student work, administration of the program, resourcing, and alumni and local practitioner support. Students will meet with the team by year and local practitioners and alumni will be hosting the lunches.
The program has instituted many significant changes in preparation for the visit including:
- a new 4 year curriculum
- a new advising package
- a new recruiting plan, package and website (to be complete Spring 2010)
- a new instructor complement for skill-based and professional courses
- new scheduling of courses for traditional students
- newly developed connections with the rest of campus through research and service opportunities
- a substantial commitment to the local professional community
According to program coordinator Lee-Anne Milburn, "the program is well situated for a highly successful accreditation. We have implemented great new strategies which improve not only student education, but also our profile in the local community and nationally. This is a great opportunity to get an honest evaluation of the effectiveness of our program from highly respected people in the national landscape architecture academic and professional realms."
